Amorgos Hints and Tips

Express Skopelitis

The Express Skopelitis is the local ferry linking Amorgos with Naxos and the smaller Cyclades (Iraklia, Schinoussa, Koufonissi, and Donoussa). Some trips just call at Iraklia, Schinoussa and Koufonissi. Others also call at Donoussa and Aegiale. In February 2009 the Express Skopelitis was leaving Naxos at 3 p.m. on Mondays to Saturdays.

The Express Skopelitis leaves from the smaller jetty in Naxos, not the main landing area used by the bigger ferries. You can easily recognise the Express Skopeltis from a distance by her unsual blue pipework smokestacks, one at each side of the boat.

You can check the timetable on [www.gtp.gr Greek Travel Pages] Sometimes the new times are not issued in advance, so if no times are shown, that may not mean that the Express Skopelitis is not running.

However, the Express Skopelitis does sometimes go "off duty" for servicing. This year I saw her heading off for a service on March 2 - there is no replacement boat.
