Kastelorizo
Kastelorizo, the most remote island in Greece. 6 hours by ferry when I went in the mid 1990s. The island is very atmospheric. An attractive harbour, and decaying houses behind.
Some memories.
- sunset at about 3 p.m. - there is a high hill just behind the village
- a ceremony I attended to mark the installation of a new village clock
- a room in a stately mansion just behind the market. The market area is impressive, with marble slabs, but I never saw it in use. The Kastelorizo market is covered. I saw similar slabs in the open air at Mykonos - those were still in use.
